7/19/2023 - 1:00 PM - BOIL WATER NOTICE LIFTED

Today, the municipal water system in Morrisville, Vermont successfully passed all tests required to lift the Boil Water Notice. This means consumers do NOT need to boil water, and Morrisville Water & Light can restore chlorine settings to normal levels.

There are no restrictions on our water system. You may use the water for any and all uses! For the next three to five days you may still notice the heightened smell and taste of chlorine.  This water is perfectly safe to use for all purposes and there is no need to flush your internal systems. With time, both the smell and taste will return to normal.

MWL has been frequently asked what customers will need to do before using the water. The answer is NOTHING! As MWL has noted in previous posts, flood water did not enter our pipes or reservoirs.  We now know there is no coliform in our well. MWL had five separate tests come back negative (meaning they passed the test) so we have a very high confidence level.

The State of Vermont shares our confidence. It is actually their decision to lift the Boil Water Notice – a decision MWL entirely agrees with.

Our water stations and bottled water availability will now cease.  MWL is checking with other water utilities to see if they need water resources. It seems appropriate to provide what we still have to others in crisis before continuing to distribute.  If we determine that no other utility needs water, we’ll consider if we are allowed to give it away.  More on that potential in a future post.

Thank you all so much for your compassion, empathy, and patience. Each person in our community is simply amazing!
